“
ASGRATARIS MODELISMO SOLIDARIO”
English
learning: hobby modeling as an educational tool.
Summary
Educational hobby modeling workshop taught in English, where
children will learn how to paint with a brush and acrylic colors. They will
learn also how to paint with naturals and hand made tools. The workshop will be
guided by a social educator and a professional painter and sculptor, plus three
children directly from India, where Asgrataris realized a similar project
during the three months of staying in “Friendsfoundation" orphanage.
Besides the practical workshops, we need to collect materials. To
collect them we will walk from the park “Bola de Oro” to the village “Cenes de
la Vega” ( through the Genil river ) where we are going to take gravel, sand,
wood, dry leaves and other materials offer by nature while we are having a
conversation in english about the importance of recycling, cleaning of woods
and environment respect.
An ideal course in which they will learn another language and they
will create relationships between new cultures while we enjoy art and nature.
Introduction
Course designed for children with an age between 9-12 years.
What push us to select the hobby modeling as an educative tools
and this particular workshop was in mainly the success it has got in Narapally
( India). Under poor economic conditions, in an orphanage where we met our
“young teachers” who will come to support us in our workshops in Granada.
Prashant, Granmachan and Atari were the most interested students
during our hobby modeling workshops between other 60 more children. Those young promises of
hobby modeling, learned how to make good pieces with recycled materials
collected on the path from their orphanage to workshops place.
The objective of this project is the social inclusion of other
cultures, an “horizontal learning” between young girls and boys from different
cultures, ages and countries. Using a common language (English). Passing down
our experiences and knowledge while we are learning a new tongue. Throughout hobby
modeling, used as a means to educate, “ Asgrataris modelismo solidario”, showed
that is possible to join a vocation with an hobby, respecting the environment,
enjoying art and sharing time with friends.
We want to introduce this project in Spain cause we think that is
an important educative opportunity for the personal growth of our
children. In the same workshop they have the chance to learn a language,
sharing an orphanage live experience ( told by the Indian children), know
better our city walking through its nature sides. They will be discussing about
the importance of the respect of the environment, learn how to paint and how to
sculpt in order to make their own scenography in which they can play with
figures made also by themselves. They will wake up that artistic part which
give us a critical and respectful
conscience.
Diagnostic and reality analysis:
We want to analyze the two realities cultures:
the western one as long as the oriental one, which characteristics are mainly
opposed.
From one side we have an “Europe” full of informations which at
the end what it’s doing is “misinforming” the population.
We got too much access to the information, that
we are touching the limit between “ what is really happening” and “ what I want to
listen and see cause it’s supporting my ideas and ideology”.
This way to inform is extending an Indian and European prototype.
On one side we have a continent ( India ), mostly poor , which thinks that we
are reach. On the other side western people, who thinks that they are really
poor.
From this born the idea to realize an intercultural connection
between this two worlds, where we realize that be poor is not a lack of
economics resources ( but rather a lack of moral and respect). And be reach is
not owning a lot ( but rather supply primary needs and affective long-lasting
relationships).
“Asgrataris, modelismo solidario” in its project in India doesn't
carried out a common project, in which the association give its help and at the
end everyone come back at their normal life.
But we create an important impact in this little community, in
which we transmit the importance of self-knowledge and empowerment as a way to
grow up our own personality. And way not, an economic way to survive: we
achieve to go all together to the cinema thanks to the money we receive selling
the children pieces. They learned how to make their own paints, brushes, putty
and toys with the few they had.
Above all, thanks to their will and passion for the learning of an
hobby and a art which they can still cultivate by their own.
Considering all, analyzing our experience in India, in a
socio-critical way, and after listening the children wishes we
drop up the idea to bring them to Granada, in order the let them learn more
about something in what they express a deep interest. Moreover through their
learning they can teach in their turn their experience and their
knowledge about hobby modeling.
Speaking about the experience in our own country: we realize that
we can find many different english language workshops, other about art and more
about hobby modeling, in which each one approach its subject
individually. We firmly think that the best way to understand it, it’s to
combine different subjects in an educational way, using an alternative
pedagogy, in which, sharing experiences with other children,
they will acquire the knowledge in a better way.
Analyzing
another side of our society, we complaint that it is so full of theory
that is not waking up a critical conscience in our children. We learn from our
books and a big part of our knowledge is for “ conviction” an not through
experience (vary less). Several studies and different new and olds pedagogies
are constantly claim the necessity to choose a new educational way. This give a
better teaching about leaving and not a preparation for a working world and
life.
We all see positive, at the same way, that our young girls and
boys live such experience together with children from India, in which different
perspective and versions about the idea of living will meet in a way to
reach a
deep knowledge about
both cultures. Using for all that a common language and hobby modeling as a link
and tool.
Where and when the project will take place?
(Wednesday 1 of November), we will go for a walk through the Genil
river, from “Bola de oro” park till the village “Cenes de la Vega” where we
will collect all the materials we need. Being the first day of project it will
have a special timetable: we will spend three ours collecting recycled and
natural materials, needed for the rest of the project.

The workshops will take place in different sessions during one

During this time, girls and boys will reunite to learn what learn
from the Indian children in the last project of “Asgrataris modelismo
solidario”, moreover during this time they will be followed by professional
teachers learning new techniques.
During the stay of the Indian children in Spain, they will also
receive privates classes: a way to have more things to share with the
Spanish children joining the workshop. This will happen face-to-face and
through Skype when it will be needed.
The knowledge they will acquire is not limited at the social and
linguistic environment. The main essence of hobby modeling involve a wide
knowledge over different issues, from vegetation, climate, geography till
complex things as engineering, psychology or biology. Those big knowledges,
sometimes simple, sometimes abstracts,
are suitable for being taught through hobby modeling and art in a
different way that from the books.
